Fall Into Freedom: Give Yourself the Harvest of Your Life

Two-Weekend Workshop

October 20-22 and November 10-12, 2023

A deep focus on where you’ve been, who you’ve become, and where you’d like to go. Over two weekends, you’ll uncover (and learn to overcome!) the roots of self-defeating patterns, rekindle your passion, and practice loving yourself as never before.

What does “Fall Into Freedom” offer?

  • Two life-changing weekend workshops with three weeks of living the practice in between, held in the safe container of a supportive community.

Safe space to honestly assess and take responsibility for the life you’ve lived.

Experience authentic connection with yourself and others.

  • Profound, accelerated insights, growth, and transformation – without the use of mind-altering substances.

Experiential processes to break free from conditioned beliefs and fearful, limiting behaviors.

Opportunities to integrate and release trauma stored in your body through breathwork, movement, and sharing.

  • Pre- and post-workshop integration support with experienced team members as you actualize new ways of being in your life.

New tools, principles, and practices for maintaining awareness in daily life.

Be warmly welcomed into the Awareness Institute community – as Ram Dass said, “We’re all just walking each other home.”

If you’re longing for deeper meaning and fulfillment, Awareness Institute workshops help you find the answers within, so you can catalyze concepts into action.

Weekend 1: October 20-22

The first weekend will explore how we came to be the way we are and the origins of our patterns.

Weekend 2: November 10-12*

The second weekend will focus on initiating and sustaining real change (internally and externally) so your life feels more vibrant, aligned, and joyful.

This two-part workshop is about coming back to life after the COVID phase of heightened anxiety and isolation. It's about reconnecting with ourselves, rediscovering what we love, and doing the real work of growing up.

*Under special circumstances, Weekend 2 may be available for standalone attendance without having attended Weekend 1. Please inquire if interested.

This fall will be particularly special not only because we are returning to an in-person format, but also because John Ruskell (founder of the Awareness Institute) will be co-facilitating – bringing a new format and focus to the time-tested process he created nearly 40 years ago.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Under special circumstances, Weekend 2 may be available for standalone attendance without having attended Weekend 1. Please inquire if interested.

  • The retreat begins on Friday evening and ends on Sunday evening. We ask that participants carpool to the retreat location and you will be contacted the week of the retreat to make arrangements. Plan to arrive in the Sacramento area on Friday evening to meet your carpool around 5:00 p.m. We’ll eat dinner together at the workshop.

  • Each weekend is different, so we encourage folks to come in with an open mind. Our workshops are experiential, which means that we provide a platform where organic reactions and responses can arise, so you see yourself more clearly. We will be going beyond a conceptual discourse into an experience where concepts are blended with feeling and emotion, providing a more holistic experience. The workshop uses a variety of modalities: one-on-one and group sharing, movement, breathing, music, etc. Strong emotions may surface and that could look like crying, anger, grief, etc. People will be coming to the workshop who are ready to change old patterns that are not working any more and learning to open their hearts again and trust life. Oftentimes, that requires looking at why and how we closed off or shut down — in many cases, we’ve grown so accustomed to how we are, that we don’t realize some of our day-to-day coping mechanisms until we’re in the workshop.

  • We have found that participants benefit most when they stop using recreational drugs and alcohol a few days prior to the workshop.

We will also encourage daily journaling and provide a list of optional supplemental reading. This isn’t required reading, but the book list provides a good primer for better understanding your personal makeup and what it takes to break free from your conditioning. These books are also helpful to read after the retreat to help integrate what you learned.

  • Please bring, along with your usual toiletries and travel items, a sleeping bag, pillow, bath towel, journal and pen/pencil, slippers or socks, and a mug. Wear clothing that is loose and comfortable, and bring layers as it may be warm during the day and cool in the evening.

  • Our goal is to be responsible and do what we can to keep our community healthy. For workshop volunteers and participants, that means a requirement to take two tests: one each on Thursday and Friday afternoon of the workshop week, and texting a photo of each test result to one of our workshop coordinators. If you test positive, have a recent known exposure, or have any cold/flu/rsv/Covid symptoms, we will talk with you about potential options. Masks are welcome, but optional.

Starting September 25, 2023, every U.S. household can again place an order to receive four more free rapid tests delivered directly to their home here: https://www.covid.gov/tests

  • Although workshop registration payments are non-refundable, under certain circumstances the funds may be transferable to the next scheduled retreat or workshop, minus an administrative fee of at least 10%.
